NSUI activists protest against exams, held

- IREDDY SRINIVAS REDDY | DC

“The decision of the Telangana government to conduct examinations clearly shows how insensitive the government is towards students’ health,” alleged Balmoor Venkat, Telangana NSUI state president.

Huge numbers of NSUI student activists tried to lay siege to Pragathi Bhavan in protest against the government’s decision to go ahead with the CET exams and the final year exams, alleging the state is ignoring the fact that the matter is pending in the High Court of Telangana. The activists were prevented by the police personnel and taken into custody. Many activists were seen wearing PPE kits when they came to Pragati Bhavan to stage the protest.

Balmoor said that the TRS government which has failed to arrest the spread of Coronavirus is making every attempt to conduct the examinations only risking the lives of students.

“It is evident from Karnataka’s KCET Exam that the students will be easily infected with the virus if exams are conducted in this pandemic. Taking a cue from Karnataka, the Telangana government should abstain from conducting any exam,” Balmoor demanded.

CLP leader, Bhatti Vikramarka, MLAs T. Jagga Reddy, Sridhar Babu, and other Congress leaders went to Goshamahal police grounds to show their solidarity with the detained NSUI activists. However, the police denied them entry, which led to an altercation. TPCC president and MP, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, MP, A Revanth Reddy, and other leaders condemned the detention.
