Oppn hits out at Nitish as new road is damaged

- NAYEAR AZAD | DC

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday lashed out at the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government after an approach road leading to a newly constructed Bangra Ghat bridge in Gopalganj collapsed hours before it was inaugurated by Chief Minister.

Sharing the video of the damaged approach road, the leader of the Opposition raised serious question on Nitish Kumar government’s “zero corruption policy”.

According to Tejashwi, “the incident has exposed the corruption in the state government. The approach path leading to the bridge collapsed the same day it was inaugurated by our CM. I have a video to prove that the incident has occurred”.

The bridge constructed at a cost of `509 crore was inaugurated by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday through a video conference. Tejashwi Yadav and other Opposition leaders said that before the inauguration, officials were asked to repair the damaged road.

“What would have happened if people lost their lives due to the incident,” Tejashwi Yadav said while talking to reporters. According to reports, the incident occurred due to the heavy flow of water following serious damage to Saran Dam.

This is not the first incident when Nitish Kumarled government has come under sharp criticism.

Last month approach road leading to the newly inaugurated bridge, constructed at the cost of `263.47 crore, collapsed within a month of its opening.

A portion of the path leading to the newly constructed Sattarghat Bridge over Gandak had collapsed in July, a month after Chief Minister inaugurated it. The incident had occurred after water flow increased due to heavy rainfall.

The incident had snowballed into a political controversy and Opposition parties including the RJD and Congress had cornered the Chief Minister and also demanded his resignation.

Recalling the incident on Wednesday, Tejashwi Yadav said, “It’s the public money which is being washed away through corruption. We asked questions earlier also but the state government refused to give proper explanations regarding these issues. Bridges and approach roads are being washed away after being inaugurated by our Chief Minister. We have never seen such incidents happening anywhere else in the country”.
