Drainage to carry out rainwater not built for `36 cr building Sircilla collectorate inundated
The new collectorate complex constructed with advanced and modern facilities at a cost of `36 crore on about 30 acres of land was inundated due to heavy rains over the past few days in Rajanna Sircilla district.
The officials who prepared a plan for the construction of a complex for the collectorate, and along with all other offices of various departments, had forgotten to construct a drainage canal to release the water. While they chose the place where a lake existed to construct the building, they did not take any steps after filling the lake to divert the water that would enter the lake during heavy rains.
They laid one canal temporarily to divert the rain water from the premises of the new building.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the collectorate on October 11, 2017 and fixed the date of completion was March 31, 2019. The buildings have spacious rooms and special quarters for officials, along with parking facilities. A Haritha hotel is also at the premises.
After three years, the construction work is still in progress in the district. Even though the government has 93 acres in Sircilla and Vemulawada bypass road, officials chose
25 acres of land of Damarakunta lake for construction of the collectorate and took much time to fill the lake.
Chinnabonalu, Mushtipally and Chandrampet lakes are located upstream of Damarakunta lake. When those lakes are filled with water, the excess water reaches the Damarakunta lake along with drainage water from Sircilla municipality.
Without concentrating on what must be done with such an inflow of water, officials started construction work on the new collectorate buildings without laying a drainage canal.
Before constructing the buildings, the construction of an eight metre wide and
800 metre long drainage canal was imperative. Officials did not start work on the drainage canal.
