TS allots 30K sq ft premises for OGH
The state government told the Telangana High Court that it was working on providing alternative premises to the heritage building of the Osmania General Hospital, which had hundreds of beds and was vacated recently.
Dr K. Ramesh Reddy, Director of Medical Education, furnished a counter-affidavit, stating that there were two different schools of opinion on the structural stability of the heritage building. Though the building was of the same era as other heritage structures like the High Court and City College, it was weak when compared to the others.
The affidavit was filed on the direction of the court in a PIL challenging the inaction of the government in vacating the dilapidated buildings at the OGH.
Regarding the subsequent developments in creating an alternative premises, Dr Reddy informed the court that the government had proposed a new construction of 30,000 sq ft at Quli Qutb Shah Diagnostic Centre to compensate for the loss of space by shifting from the old building.
Already 16,000 sq feet was constructed and remaining will be available in a month. Apart from it, another complex, under the sponsorship of GHMC, was almost complete for the purpose of patientattended shelters. He said that the separate construction with 100 beds and operation theatres was proposed for the orthopaedic wing and trauma centre.
