SUSHANT DEATH CASE: CBI MAY QUESTION MUMBAI POLICE

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may record statement of some of the officials of Mumbai police team who were conducting enquiry into suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

The CBI on Tuesday grilled Rajput’s flatmate Siddharth Pithani, cook Neeraj Singh and house help Deepesh Sawant whose versions of the sequence of incidents showed some differences. The officials also questioned the actor’s former chartered account Rajat Mewati again.

The police officials would be asked about their line of investigation and the questioning of the movie industry bigwigs in connection with the probe. Those city policemen who are likely to be questioned would include the team members who were closely involved in the suicide enquiry.

The trio have been questioned on several occasions by the CBI citing the inconsistencies in their statement. The officials sought clarity on their statement at the DRDO guest house in Santacruz.

The trio’s statement is of great importance in the probe as they were present in the Bandra apartment when the actor committed suicide.

“Rhea Chakraborty and family members may be summoned next for questioning in the suicide probe,” said an officer privy to the investigation.

The CBI is also rummaging through the deceased actor’s phone and other gadgets to ascertain his state of mind in the days prior to his suicide.

The details of the messages and other details exchanged by Rajput with whoever was in touch with him will be in prime focus of the investigation agency.

The CBI earlier questioned the staffers at the Waterstone Resort in Andheri about the actor’s stay at the resort. The CBI asked the staff about who was accompanying him and if there were any visitors whom he met during his stay. They are also verifying if there is any relevant CCTV camera footage that could be useful to the probe.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the other hand is probing the alleged money laundering that the actor’s father has accused Chakraborty of. The family alleged that at least `15 crore was fraudulently transferred from his bank account.

The ED is investigating the companies that were floated with the actor, Chakraborty and her brother Showik of which they were directors.
