GOVERNOR WORRIED AFTER MEDICAL PERSONNEL IN STATE GET INFECTED
Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has said that the Covid-19 infections among medical professionals in the state, as well as news of re-infections, was ‘worrisome.’
Soundararajan, a medical doctor, has long been an advocate of safety of doctors, nurses, and all other staff working in hospitals, especially those treating Covid-19 patients.
She was also the first to call attention to this issue during her visit to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) on June 8.
The Governor’s reaction to state health department officials announcing on Tuesday that 2,000 doctors and other medical workers and hospital staff have so far been infected came in a tweet on Wednesday. Department officials, as well as health minister, Etala Rajendar, had said on Tuesday that there were two cases of
Covid-19 re-infection in Telangana being investigated. “2000 medical professionals in TS and 2 cases re-infection? Worries me,” the Governor tweeted.
Dr Soundarajan who has more than once made it clear that the Telangana government’s response to tackling
Covid-19 left much to be desired on several fronts, including testing, also responded to the increase in the number of tests in the state over the past few days. ‘Large- scale testing will help the state combat the virus effectively. This is what expected,’ she tweeted.
On Wednesday, the Governor also appreciated the efforts of the Hyderabad science society in designing and producing a robotic sanitizer vehicle. Society representatives, Tripuraneni Vara Prasad and Sanjar Ali Khan, demonstrated the functioning of the vehicle at the Raj Bhavan. The Governor said “To face and overcome the Covid
19 challenges, we need to come up with new ideas and innovations. We need more research on prevention and containment of
Covid-19.”
