Covid cases higher in Khammam villages

Covid-19 is fast spreading in the villages in Khammam district. Nearly 70 per cent Covid

19 cases are being reported from rural areas. Presently, there are 5,600 active cases in the district of which 3,920 patients are from rural areas.

The medical and health employees have collected samples from 2,603 persons in the district on Wednesday of which 532 persons tested positive for

Covid-19, of these 400 are from the villages. Cases were reported in Wyra, Chintakani, Tallada, Kallur, Madhira, Nelakondap­alli and Mudigonda.

About 137 cases were exposed in the last three days in the villages surroundin­g Madhira.

Covid-19 cases were higher in Madupalli, Illendulap­adu, Athkur,

Marlapadu, Chilukuru, Illiru, Siripuram, Rompimalla, Jilugumadu and Khammampad­u in Madhira mandal. In Kamepalli, 17 cases were exposed followed by 10 in Kallur.

More cases were reported in Gandhinaga­r, Astagurthi, Vallapuram, Brahmanapa­lli, Somavaram and Hanumanbaz­ar in Wyra mandal.

G. Anand, a health activist said, “The government should increase the number of rapid antigen tests and give Covid-19 kits to all patients asked to home quarantine. The trend is expected to increase in September and may show a decline in

October.” People coming to the primary health centres to get tested for Covid19 are receiving their results within hours. A mobile Covid-19 vehicle is visiting the villages that do not have a PHC. Villagers undergoing tests will be informed about the results within an hour. Patients who tested positive for Covid-19 are recovering within a week. This is a relief to the medical staff as well as the people.

More cases were reported in Gandhinaga­r, Astagurthi, Vallapuram, Brahmanapa­lli, Somavaram and Hanumanbaz­ar in Wyra mandal.
