- AVINASH P. SUBRAMANYAM | DC

YSR Congress MLA and TTD trust board special invitee Bhumana Karunakar Reddy tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to the S.V.R. Ruia government general hospital in Tirupati on Wednesday.

According to the MLA’s close aides, Bhumana had on Tuesday given samples for Covid-19 tests after he complained of fever, cold and cough. His test report came positive on Wednesday and was admitted at the Covid-19 ward in Ruia hospital. Before admitting to the hospital, the legislator urged everyone who might have come in contact with him in recent days to test themselves for the virus as a safety measure.

Following this, the health officials have tested Bhumana’s family members for the virus and the test results are awaited. Officials are now tracing the details of people, who might have come in contact with the legislator. It may be recalled that the MLA’s son Bhumana Abhinay Reddy also tested positive for the virus and was admitted to the hospital a week ago.

Meanwhile, the legislator, who is also the chairman of Covid-19 Coordination Committee, recently stepped into the field to clear rumours about the funeral of Coronavirus victims’ bodies. He attended a couple of funerals of Covid-19 victims at Govinda Damam electric crematorium and Harishchandra Cemetery here in the city, after the family members of the deceased refused to perform the funeral.

Bhumana also took up several awareness campaigns to clear fears among people that one may contract Covid-19 by attending the last rites of an infected person.
