Fire at Anantapur GGH Covid ward leads to panic

A fire mishap led to a panic situation at the Covid-19 ward in Government General Hospital, Anantapur, late on Tuesday night. Hospital records and an old X-ray plant were gutted in the fire caused due to an electric short circuit. No one was injured in the mishap.

Official sources said records room was situated in the ID ward of the Government General Hospital. Fire broke out in the records room due to short circuit in the old and damaged wiring. Flames spread in the room quickly and all the records turned into ashes.

Hospital staff alerted fire crews of the District Fire Office located in front of the main gate of the hospital, who rushed and put out the fire within minutes of the accident, SP Satya Esubabu said.

Urban MLA Anantha Venkatrami Reddy, collector Gandham Chandrudu and hospital superinten­dent Dr. Ramaswamy Naik reviewed the situation post the fire mishap.
