Second Niloufer Hospital staff dies of Covid

Coronaviru­s continues to take a toll on the lives of healthcare workers in the state, with one more person, a 50-year-old sanitation worker at Niloufer Hosptial for Women and Children, succumbing to

Covid-19.

The worker, was being treated at Gandhi Hospital and passed away on Thursday. Just this past Tuesday, a 35-yearold woman, who worked as a EEG technician, had passed away, also at Gandhi Hospital after being diagnosed with

Covid-19.

Earlier this week, the health department said

2,000 of its staff, including doctors, nurses, and other workers in hospitals had contracted Covid

19, and 16 of those infected had lost their lives.

Staff at various levels, right from superinten­dents to sanitation workers at many government hospitals in the city including the big ones such as NIMS, Osmania, Gandhi, Niloufer and the Maternity Hospital at Petlaburj, as well as in the rest of the state, are among the healthcare workers who have been infected by Coronaviru­s.

Staff at Niloufer Hospital in the afternoon paid rich tributes to the sanitation worker and called on the government to stand by the families of health workers who have lost their lives to Covid-19.

The government, Telangana Government Doctors Associatio­n president Dr Lalu Prasad Rathod said, should provide `1 crore compensati­on to families of such healthcare workers and also provide a suitable government job to a member of the affected family.
