Despite state’s claim, Covid cases keep rising as Aug ends COVID-19 CASES IN GHMC AREA FROM AUGUST 15 TO 29

Despite the recent confident forecasts by the state health department of Covid-19 coming under control in the city by the end of August, there has been no let-up in the fresh cases of the disease in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporatio­n (GHMC) area.

Another 461 individual­s tested positive for Covid-19 in the city even as the trend of new cases hovering around the 3,000 figure each day continued as on Saturday evening.

Earlier this month, senior health department officials at a press conference said that Covid-19 cases will begin seeing a fall by the end of August in the and by the end September in the state.

Previous forecasts in April that the end of Covid

19 was near in Telangana state too fell by the wayside as the disease only got stronger in its spread in the entire state over the past few months.

In its Sunday bulletin providing Covid-19 statistics for the 24-hour period between Friday and Saturday evening, the health department said the state registered 2,924 new

Covid-19 cases with GHMC retaining the dubious hotspot status with the most number of daily cases.

So far, 1,23,090 people have been infected by the Coronaviru­s as per the bulcity of letin. Of these, 90,988 have recovered including 1,638 between Friday and Saturday, the department said.

Ten more people lost their lives to the disease taking the toll to 818 from Covid-19. There were 31,284 active cases of whom 24,176 persons were in home or institutio­nal isolation.

The department said it conducted 61,148 tests and from these, results of 1,801 tests were awaited.

Ranga Reddy district took the second spot with 213 fresh cases, followed by 181 in Khammam, 172 in Karimnagar, 171 in Nalgonda, 153 in MedchalMal­kajgiri, 140 in Nizamabad, 118 in Suryapet, and 102 in Warangal Urban districts.
