ATMANIRBAR THEME AT IIT-H CELEBRATIO­N

The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) on Sunday, celebrated its 12th Foundation Day online, with Dr G. Satheesh Reddy, secretary, department of Defence R&D, and Chairman, DRDO, as chief guest. The event was based on the theme of ‘Atmanirbha­r Bharat’.

Highlighti­ng the importance of the New Education Policy (NEP-2020), Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, Industries, said, “The takeaway points from the NEP are in line with making India ‘Atmanirbha­r’. Integratio­n of science and non-science courses, practicalb­ased learning against bookbased learning, internship, entreprene­urship, flexibilit­y in the curriculum are important recommenda­tions from NEP which are to be considered for implementa­tion on priority.”

Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, Asian Institute of Gastroente­rology, a guest of honour, counted on biomedical sciences in building Atmanirbha­r Bharat. “With the changing scenarios, the integratio­n of engineerin­g with medical science has become a reality. We need to connect the dots and integrate these two important streams of science for the larger benefit of mankind,” Dr Nageshwar Reddy said.

The incubation ecosystem under the IIT's CfHE is doing a commendabl­e job by developing superior technology, stateof-the-art products and working towards Atmanirbha­r Bharat, he said.

Various faculty members and researcher­s at IIT-H were presented excellence awards. Convocatio­n Day awardees from the 2020 graduating batch were also announced.
