- DC CORRESPONDENT

Telangana state will give stiff competition to Andhra Pradesh in the race for the bulk drug park. The Centre will evaluate the proposals of the competing states and decide on rankings.

Hyderabad has the traditional advantage of being the bulk drug capital of the country and the TS government has already acquired about

8,000 acres for Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) and set into motion the acquisition of another 7,000 acres. K.T. Rama Rao, TS industries minister, has been promoting HPC as the world’s largest pharmaceutical cluster that would finally come up in

19,000 acres and would be an ideal international

● THE HPC is ready with the master plan according to which 3,394 acres would be allotted to the ‘red’ category industries,

1,615 acres to the hybrid category, 2,797 acres for orange and 558 acres for green and white categories.

destination for global pharma players opting out of China. Besides, it will also accommodate the existing and new domestic players.

Another advantage of the TS model is that the government will bear the expenditure of basic infrastructure like roads, drainage and power while the private player has to invest in the common effluent treatment plant and other capital intensive facilities mandated for maintaining a clean environment like heating and cooling.

The HPC is ready with the master plan according to which 3,394 acres would be allotted to the ‘red’ category industries, 1,615 acres to the hybrid category, 2,797 acres for orange and 558 acres for green and white categories. It proposed to set up a pharma university of international standards. It will gear up to treat 120 million litres per day of effluents and manage waste of 164 tonnes per day.

Andhra Pradesh on the other hand has just begun the race and set up the AP Bulk Drug Infrastructure Corporation and is in search of a private partner who in all probability will be Aurobindo Pharma.
