More tigers seen in Adilabad forests

Villagers advised not to venture out before 6 am and return early

Sighting of tigers has increased in several areas of Adilabad, Kumarambhe­em Asifabad Mancherial districts. It is said as the prey base of herbivores is less in the forest along the Penganga, some tigers are coming nearer to villages on the fringes of forests and targeting cattle.

Farmers are scared of the presence of tigers and avoiding their fields to water or apply pesticides to their standing crops.

Tiger sighting has been reported at Karanji in Bheempur mandal of Adilabad district, Khairguda in Tiryani mandal in Kumarambhe­em Asifabad district, and Mandamarri, Nennel and near Gollavagu project in Bheemaram mandal of Mancherial district.

Forest beat officer Keshav of Arli (T) visited the spot and confirmed that it was a tiger kill. He also found pug marks of the tiger at the location on August 14.

There are reports of another tiger attacking cattle grazing close to the forests on outskirts of Mediguda-Kautala villages in Gadeguda mandal on Sunday morning. One of the cattle belonging to Herakumre Isru died in the tiger attack.

Isru said he was shocked on seeing the tiger attacking his grazing cattle. He ran for his life and alerted the villagers.

Villagers say when they reached the spot, the tiger had disappeare­d from the scene.

Forest officials have advised people not to venture out of their villages before 6 am and return early to their homes in the evening because of the movement of tigers.

Tigers are migrating from the Tippeshwar and Tadoba Andhari tiger reserve of Maharashtr­a. Their movement is high along the rivers of Penganga, Pranahitha and Godavari on Telangana state’s borders with Maharashtr­a.
