TRS banking on 2BHK houses to win GHMC polls

Party to educate people about infra works

-

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi will seek from people another term in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the forthcoming civic polls on the basis of its good governance, development and public welfare schemes.

TRS leadership strongly believes that development activities taken up by it in the city will help it emerge winner in the GHMC once again. The party is planning to educate people about the infrastructure projects it has already completed in the city and new projects that it will take up in future to develop Hyderabad as a world class city.

Congress and BJP have been targeting the ruling party on the issue of double bedroom houses, alleging that the TRS had failed in fulfilling its promise that was made during elections to the GHMC in 2016. TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy recently challenged that if the ruling party proves that it had given double bedroom houses to at least 1% of total applicants, Congress will not contest the ensuing GHMC elections.

To counter Congress allegations, TRS has set a target of completing about 80,000 double bedroom houses in GHMC limits and handing them over to beneficiaries by mid December this year.

The BJP had also taken the double bedroom houses issue as its main agenda during the 2018 Assembly elections both in the GHMC limits as well as at the state level. Ruling party leaders feel this time too, BJP will take up the same issue to corner the ruling party in the GHMC elections. TRS leaders feel completion and allotment of a greater number of double bedroom houses before the GHMC polls will certainly benefit the ruling party.

Opposition parties are also criticising the ruling party of neglecting people’s health care and not conducting Covid-19 tests rapidly in the GHMC limits despite a surge in Corona positive cases. To counter this criticism, the state government is concentrating on establishing additional Basti Dawakhanas in GHMC limits. Recently, K.T. Rama Rao and other ministers inaugurated around 50 Basti Dawakhanas in addition to the existing 118. The state government is planning to set up a total 350 Basti Dawakhanas in the GHMC limits.

Besides double bedroom houses and Basti Dawakhanas, the state government is also focusing on other development programmes taken up in the city in recent months. The TRS working president and urban development minister K .T. Rama Rao has laid foundation stones for several infrastructure projects worth around ` 1,000 crore, including an elevated corridor from the Government Printing Press in Chanchalguda to Yadagiri Theatre, a four-lane bi-directional elevated corridor from Indira Park to VST, and a two-level three-lane bi-directional flyover from Ram Nagar to Bagh Lingampally.

H yd e r a b a d Metropolitan Development Authority has also taken up construction of several link roads in the city. The ropeway bridge on Durgamchervu is set for inauguration in the coming days.

TRS sources disclose that the party working president has been insisting on ministers, MLAs and corporators of the city to widely highlight the government’s development works and welfare activities among people in the GHMC area.

Sources said the party leadership is of the opinion that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, there will not be scope for holding huge public meetings and road shows.

As such, KTR has asked party cadres to spread the government’s achievements through word-ofmouth publicity to the maximum extent possible.

Party sources say the working president is also planning to use social media and ecampaigning in civic polls, so that he is able to interact with people in several locations at the same time.
