Kishan gets assurance on fertilisers
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy met Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday to discuss supply of fertilisers to Telangana State during the season.
In an immediate response, Gowda called a meeting with officers of the fertilisers Department to take stock of the situation. The officials stated that Telangana’s projected requirement for 2020 Kharif season was 10 LMT. The requirement from April 1 to August 31 was 8 LMT against which the department ensured an availability of 10.17 LMT, including the opening stock of 4.01 LMT. During the fivemonth period sale of Urea was 8.68 LMT as compared to 5.09 LMT for the last year’s corresponding period. Despite an unprecedented demand for urea this season, the availability has remained comfortable, they said.
Further, for the month of August against the projected requirement of 2.50 LMT, they had made available 4.52 LMT (including opening stock of 2.67 LMT). Urea stock available as on august 31 is 1.49 LMT.
As regards September, against the requirement of 2 LMT, a supply plan of
2.10 LMT has been allocated and imported urea vessels have been lined up and they are expected to reach the ports feeding Telangana by the middle of this month.
Gowda assured Kishan Reddy that the Department would continue to monitor closely the state’s requirements of fertilisers and ensure that the stocks meet the field requirement and not cause any distress to farmers.
