Liquor price hike rolled back

- DC CORRESPONDENT

To curb smuggling of popular brands of liquor and beer from other states like Telangana due to the vast price difference, the state government has reduced their price and hiked prices of top brands to compensate for the loss of revenue.

The government issued GO MS No. 256 on Thursday fixing rates on IMFL, foreign liquor, beer, wine and ready-to-drink varieties supplied by wholesale IMFL depots to retail licensees. The revised rates will come into effect on Friday.

In comparison to the existing prices that were fixed on May 3, beer measuring

355/350 ml and 500/650 ml and ready-to-drink varieties of

250/275/330 ml will now be `30 cheaper.

Among popular IMFL and FL brands,

50/60/90 ml will be less by `10, while 180/200 ml will be cheaper by

`39 and that of

350/360/375 ml by `60 and there will be `120 slash of 700/750 ml brands.

However, there will be no change in prices of IMLF and FL varieties priced between

`150 and `190. Those priced in the `190-210 range will now cost more by `40 for

50/60/90 ml and by

`300 for 1,000 ml. There will be an increase of

`40 for those sold in the `210-290 range for

50/60/90 ml and `340 for 1,000 ml.

Those in the `290-360 category will now be dearer by `60 for

50/60/90 ml and by Rs

470 for 1,000 ml. For varieties priced above

`360 up to `530, the cost will be up by `80 for

50/60/90 ml and `740 for 1,000 ml. For products priced in the `530

600 range there is a cost escalation of `120 for

50/60/90 ml and `1,110 for 1,000 ml. Brands priced above `600 to cost more by `140 for

50/60/90 ml and by

`1,320 for 1,000 ml.
