TELANGANA THIRD IN EASE OF DOING BIZ, AP NUMBER 1

Telangana state has dropped one rank to to the third position in the nation-wide Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) rankings for 2019, that were released on Saturday. Andhra Pradesh tops the list, followed by Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials of the industries department, the state lost out due to difference in the feedback percentage for implementi­ng reforms when compared to UP.

They said that EoDB rankings were based on points gained by each state in implementa­tion of 17 categories. While it implemente­d the reforms, the state could not meet the requiremen­t of filling up 90 per cent vacancies in specialise­d commercial courts implementi­ng a system that allows publishing of e-cause lists for commercial disputes. The reforms pertaining to digitalisa­tion of the transactio­ns in the state excise could not be implemente­d.

The 17 reforms cover labour regulation, access to informatio­n and transparen­cy, commercial dispute resolution, and administra­tion and transfer of land and property, land availabili­ty and allotment, inspection, constructi­on permits, single window system, environmen­tal registrati­on, obtaining electricit­y connection, paying taxes apart from sector specific issues, and feedback obtained on their implementa­tion.

The rankings were released by Union minister Piyush Goyal in the presence of ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Hardeep Singh Puri.
