- DC CORRESPONDENT

The National Education Policy 2020 has the potential to transform the country’s education system and turn India into a global knowledge superpower, Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has said.

She said that the early childhood education plans that are a part of the new policy also ensure that nutritional needs of the children are met along with education and this will lead to a healthy nation.

The Governor was addressing a webinar, ‘National Education Policy2020 with reference to school education’ on the occasion of Teachers’ Day from Raj Bhavan on Saturday. Among the participants were Kendriya Vidyalaya principal Krishna Murthy, JNV principal Daniel Ratna Kumar, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan director Rama Devi, Maharshi Vidya Mandir principal Vasanthi Parushuraman, HPS principal S. Narasimha Reddy, and National Institute of Open School regional director Anil Kumar Reddy.

“Teachers,” the Governor said, “are the designers of the nation’s destiny and they create the leaders for different fields to take the country forward.” The destiny of the nation and that of its people is created in classrooms, and teachers with their commitment and selfless service make students realise their full potential.

“Whatever I am today is because of my teachers. My father was busy in the political sphere. He could not give enough time to take care of my studies. But my teachers from nursery to medical college took care of me and gave me the confidence to become whatever I am today. I salute all the teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day,” Dr Soundararajan said.

Earlier, the Governor offered floral tributes to the portrait of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.
