12 more Covid deaths in state

Covid-19 deaths in Telangana neared the

1,000 mark with the state government on Wednesday announcing that 12 more persons had succumbed to coronaviru­s taking the toll to

996. The 2,273 new positive cases that have been registered have taken the overall total to 1,62,844.

Meanwhile, the government, in its Wednesday morning’s Covid-19 bulletin for the 24-hour period between Monday and Tuesday evenings, said it added 253 beds in its hospitals designated as

Covid-19 treatment centres in the state. This takes the total beds available in 42 Covid-19 government hospitals to 8,345.

However, simultaneo­usly, the government appeared to have approved 10 more private hospitals to provide treatment to Covid-19 patients. The number of such private hospitals now stands at 214 and the bed strength rose by 555 to touch 11,288.

The state has 30,401 active cases. A total of

55,636 samples were collected for testing during the same period and results were awaited for

883 samples. Men continue to vastly outnumber women with 1,00,686 or

61.83 per cent of cases while 62,158 women have tested positive till date.

Fresh cases in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporatio­n area were

325, the highest for any geographic­al area in the state. Ranga Reddy district saw 185 new cases, followed by Nalgonda with 175, MedchalMal­kajgiri 164, Karimnagar 122, and Warangal Urban 144 fresh
