Sravani death case: Ashok surrenders

- SANJAY SAMUEL PAUL | DC

The absconding accused in the police case relating to television actress Sravani Kondapalli’s death by suicide, film producer Ashok Reddy, on Wednesday gave himself up to the assistant commissioner of police, Panjagutta. And after a medical examination at Osmania General Hospital, Reddy was grilled by the police for hours.

There have also been several questions as to how the status of Ashok Reddy, first listed as A1, or Accused No. 1 in the case, was changed to A3 in the chargesheet.

It may be recalled that 26-year-old Kondapalli died by suicide on the night of September 8 at her residence. On a complaint lodged by her mother, the police launched an investigation, with suspicions on the roles that three of her friends, Devraj Reddy, Sai Krishna Reddy and producer of the movie RX100, Ashok Reddy, were involved with her and had caused her to take her own life.

While Devaraj Reddy, and Sai Krishna Reddy were picked up by the police and taken into custody, Ashok Reddy was absconding and his mobile phone was switched off.

According to the police, Kondapalli came into contact with Ashok Reddy in 2017 and then went on to play a role in one of his films. Subsequently, they had developed a close relationship. The police also discovered during their investigations that Kondapalli had in the past used Ashok Reddy’s credit card for shopping.

The police also said that each of the three men had at one point of time or other promised to marry her but reneged on their promises.
