Uttam seeks direct railway line from Hyd-Vijayawada

- DC CORRESPONDENT

TPCC president and Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday urged the Centre to build a direct railway line between Hyderabad and Vijayawada via Chityal, Narketpalli, Nakrekal, Suryapet and Kodad.

While making a written submission under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, the MP informed the Centre that the erstwhile State of Andhra Pradesh was divided into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in 2014.

He brought to the notice of the House that “Hyderabad and Vijayawada are the principal cities in these two states and they are connected, presently, by a circuitous railway line and the journey takes over six hours. If a straight railway line is laid between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, the journey time can be reduced to less than two hours. The economies of both states would receive a huge boost.”

The Congress member said that NH-65 between

Hyderabad and Vijayawada has land adjacent to it, which was acquired earlier. This can be used to construct the new railway line from Hyderabad to Vijayawada. He said connecting Jaggaiahpet and Chityal will be adequate for the purpose of increasing connectivity between these cities.

He pointed out that a superfast train like a Shatabdi or even a bullet train from Hyderabad to Vijayawada on a direct line would reduce the travel time to less than two hours.

He told the House that this would definitely boost the economy and traffic between the states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and benefit the country’s economy.
