2 interchanges on ORR to be built soon
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to construct two interchanges on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), taking their total to 21. One interchange is planned at Movie Towers on the western side of the road at Kokapet, with a rotary interchange, grade separator or trumpet road. Another interchange is planned at Janwada, which would match with the proposed grid roads on the master plan.
Both these interchanges fall within the busy Financial District and Kollur Road on ORR. Once these projects are completed, commuters will be able to avoid taking the Nanakramguda road and travel directly from Narsingi junction to Shamshabad junction, cutting the distance by 6.8 km. The two interchanges will cater to needs of commuters travelling from TSPA, Kokapet, Kollur, Kismathpur and Manchirevula.
The huge distance between each interchange of the ORR has come under criticism as commuters have to travel 5.7 km extra to enter or exit the ORR. Authorities said to allow a hassle-free journey to commuters travelling from Narsingi junction to Shamshabad, an overpass will be constructed at the junction, which facilitates commuters to travel directly from Narsingi to Shamshabad.
Likewise, a down pass at the Narsingi junction will be constructed to facilitate commuters travelling from Shamshabad. These will prevent commuters from going to Nanakramguda, which would save 6.8 km on the expressway.
Municipal authorities have decided to construct a trumpet road or a grade separator along with the interchange at an estimated cost of `65 crore. They are conducting a feasible study at Janwada interchange since the Kokapet interchange will reduce traffic to a great extent. According to HMDA's preliminary estimates, the interchange would cost anywhere between `15 crore and `18 crore.
A senior official, requesting anonymity, said Aarvee Associates had been hired as consultant for conducting a feasibility study and designing the interchanges. The interchange at Kokapet will also help develop 513 acres of HMDA's land, which is adjacent to the road.
