Nawaz, Zardari vow to send govt packing SHEHBAZ SON SUMMONED FOR INTERROGATION

- SHAFQAT ALI | DC

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari Sunday vowed to send the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government packing.

Speaking at an opposition’s All Parties Conference (APC) Nawaz Sharif, who is in London and has been declared absconder by the Pakistani courts, said the primary reason for the current problems were those people who ‘hijacked the people’s mandate by putting inexperienced people in power’ in 2018.

He said Pakistan had become a laboratory of “such experiments” and every child knows that no prime minister has been allowed to complete five years in power.

“It’s not even taken into account that the democratic structure of the country is demolished due to such tactics and the public loses faith in the system,” he said marking his political comeback after more than a year.

The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) supremo said that democracy was in danger and he agrees with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazal) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that “we need to make this conference purposeful or people will be disappointed. If we don’t do it (take a step) today, when will we?”

He also repeated opposition’s allegation that the

Islamabad, Sept. 20: Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sunday summoned Salman Shehbaz, son of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) President Shehbaz Sharif, for questioning about a massive deposit he made to an employee’s account.

Salman has been summoned on September 25 at the FIA office in Lahore. One of the topics he will be questioned about will be a Rs9.2 billion deposit he made into an employee’s account. Salman already has warrants out for his arrest in a money laundering case.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB), with the connivance of PTI, was carrying out only “selective accountability”.

Former President Asif Ali Zardari, in his address said that they will send the government packing to restore democracy and save the country. Foundation of a country is laid on democracy, after which prosperity follows, he added. Zardari thanked Nawaz for accepting PPP’s invitation and said that Benazir Bhutto signed charter of democracy with Nawaz and both parties cooperated to remove Musharraf from office.
