Sumedha parents file complaint

- SANJAY SAMUEL PAUL | DC

Parents of 12- year- old Sumedha, the girl who was washed away in a nala on Thursday, have filed a complaint at the Neredmet police station on Monday against municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao.

Residents of Deendayalnagar at Malkajgiri, Sumedha’s parents, Abhijit and Sukanya Kapooriya, have also started a campaign 'JusticeforSumedha’ and taken an oath that they will continue their fight until the guilty are brought to book.

In their complaint to the police, they have also named in their complaint Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) mayor Bonthu Rammohan, GHMC zonal commissioner and the local corporator. The Congress has decided to back the Kapooriya family.

In a mail sent to media representatives after filing the complaint, Sukanya Kapooriya, mother of the deceased, said: “We have been residing in Deendayalnagar of Malkajgiri since more than two years. Many a time, local residents had complained about the open nala. Colony residents also gave representations to KTR, the mayor, and the corporator to solve the problem posed by the open nala. But no one has responded.”

“If those in responsible positions had acted earlier, our daughter would have been safe today. We feel that no parent should suffer like us in the future. No child should again face the same fate. Therefore, demanding justice for Sumedha, we have filed a complaint against the municipal administration minister and others, who are decision makers,” Sukanya Kapooriya said.

A delegation of the Congress led by senior leader Dasoju Sravan told media: “The Congress appreciates the determination of Sumedha's parents. We will stand by them in their fight for justice for Sumedha.”

The senior Congress leader said the police had filed a missing case in case of Sumedha's death, that too against an assistant engineer (AE) and aivisional dngineer (DE). “This is nothing but shielding those in power and making lower- rung employees scapegoats. KTR, te mayor, zonal commissioner, and the corporator are responsible for the death of Sumedha,” Sravan added.
