22,990 patients under home care for Covid

THE TOTAL number cases of cases is now 1,72,608 and the toll 1,042. Of the total cases, 1,20,826 were asymptomat­ic and 51,782 had symptoms.

The state has 22,990 people undergoing treatment at home for Covid-19 out of the 29,636 active cases, the health department said in its bulletin on Monday.

As has become the norm on Sundays, testing was low which showed in the number of new cases falling to 1,302. The state has been registered over 2,000 cases throughout the week. The state tested 31,095 samples tested on Sunday, down from 53,811 on Saturday. Nine deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded on Sunday, the bulletin said.

The drop in testing was attributed to people not going to hospitals assuming that they would be closed on Sunday. A senior government doctor on condition of anonymity said, “There is not enough informatio­n given to people that during pandemic hospitals and medical centres are working and they can reach out. On Monday morning, we notice severe cases coming to hospital as people did not come due to the holiday on Sunday.” The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporatio­n area recorded the highest number of cases at 266, followed by Karimnagar at 102. Ranga Reddy district had 98 new cases, Siddipet 92, Nalgonda 70 and Warangal Urban had 62.

661 cases. Unnecessar­y travel by people and not following the protocols of wearing masks and maintainin­g physical distancing were stated to be the main reasons for the spread of the disease in the rural areas, a health official said.
