A 65-year-old woman was abandoned by her family when she returned home after getting treated for Covid-19 at the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad. Police intervened and reunited the woman with her family on Monday.

Gangoni Balamani had been staying in an old age home. She was admitted to the Nizamabad Government General Hospital by the old age home after she contracted Coronavirus.

Following treatment, Balamani tested negative and the hospital discharged her. As the old age home was closed, she returned to her home at Rotarynagar colony in Nizamabad, where her son was staying.

However, her son Gangoni Rammohan, who is working with TS Southern Power Distribution Company, locked the house and left along with his family members, afraid that they all may contract Coronavirus.

Following this, since past the few days, the elderly woman was forced to stay in front of the locked house. Noticing this, neighbours filmed her pathetic condition on cellphones and posted it on social media.

After the report went viral, Nizamabad Town circle inspector B. Satyanarayana and IV town sub-inspector M. Laxmaiah rushed to Rotarynagar and found Balamani.

They policemen then located her son Rammohan and counselled him about taking care of his mother. Officials of District Legal Services Authority also counselled the family. The family thus got reunited.

Nizamabad GGH superintendent Dr. Prathima Raj too came forward to help the elderly woman.
