Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have decided to impose fresh prohibitory orders in several of their districts as fresh cases of the Coronavirus continue to stretch the state health system. Several schools reopened partially for Classes 9-12 students in various parts of the country even though the most hit states — Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal — have decided to wait till cases subside. In Agra, the Taj Mahal reopened amid safety protocols.

On Monday, a slight drop was noted in the number of fresh cases of the Coronavirus mainly due to the dip in testing. The union health ministry said in the last 24 hours 86,971 new cases were reported taking India’s total number of cases to 54.87 lakh while the toll reached 87,882 with 1,130 fresh fatalities. However, compared to 12 lakh tests conducted on Saturday, Sunday saw 7.31 lakh tests that resulted in a drop in new case detections.

Health ministry officials underlined that the country’s recovery rate of Covid19 cases is now 80.12 per cent with over 90,000 recoveries recorded for the third consecutive day. In the last 24 hours, 93,356 patients were discharged. Officials added 12 States and Union Territories have registered a recovery rate more than the national average of 80 per cent and 79 per cent of the new recovered cases are from 10 states and Union Territories.

The total recovered cases are 43.96 lakh as India tops the global figure for total recoveries. “It accounts for more than 19 per cent of the world total,” an official said. Maharashtra has alone contributed more than 20,000 and Andhra Pradesh has contributed more than 8,000.
