‘I have always been about breaking stereotypes’
Ruhi Singh aims to showcase her acting skills in the south
Miss India finalist Ruhi Singh, who will be making her Telugu debut with Mosagallu, seems to be among those who had a great time during the lockdown. “I don’t want to lie; I picked up several things online with a chat show, YuhiWithRuhi, through which I interacted with my industry friends. My following grew multi-fold as a result,” she chuckles, adding that she realised she could create content (make videos) as well. “I was always an actor and a pageant winner but I never knew that I could create content on YouTube, so that’s something I discovered within me during the lockdown,” says the Calendar Girls star, revealing that she also starred in a short film, That Neighbour’s Wife, directed by Kristy Decunha, on domestic violence.
A woman of many talents, Ruhi is trained in Kathak, certified in Kung Fu and has also undergone training in Shaolin Kung Fu and kickboxing.
“I have been picking up a wide array of skills to make myself better. I have always been about breaking stereotypes because I feel no one can typecast a woman. And I am grateful to the filmmakers for offering different kinds of roles,” the actress says. She is hoping that the south will get a glimpse of her acting prowess through Mosagallu, a Ho l lywood crossover film, directed by Jeffrey Gee Chin. “For my role, I watched several South films to understand the culture and the history of the people of Hyderabad. I wanted to work more in the South to experience the beauty of cinema,” Ruhi explains.
Being a lover of spicey food, the actress enjoyed biriyani during her stay in Hyderabad before the lockdown. “I had a great time visiting restaurants to taste the local dishes,” she enthuses, adding that she has also shot for Sanjay Mishra’s directorial, Runaway Bride and Bang Bang under Ekta Kapoor.
