Akshay breaks 18-year rule for Bellbottom

Suggests a way to expedite the project

- LIPIKA VARMA

Large-hearted Akshay Kumar has turned saviour for the producers of Bellbottom, currently being shot in the scenic Scottish Highlands. Realising the hit the producers would have to take because of the 14-week delay in starting the shoot because of quarantine rules, given the huge size of the unit, Akshay Kumar broke his own cardinal rule of only working eight hours a day, and recommended double shifts.

After following his rule on working time for 18 years, Akshay sprang a surprise by recommending that two units shoot simultaneously to ensure that the work is fast tracked.

Producer Jackky Bhagnani says “Akshay Sir is truly a producer’s actor and it has been a privilege to work with him. He is constantly thinking about everyone and everything. Thinking about safety measures for the entire unit, shooting schedules and challenges faced by producers.

When he suggested two units we were absolutely stunned and excited at the same time. And seeing his work discipline and respect for time, everyone on the sets is super energised and pitching in with their best. It’s like well-oiled machinery working round the clock to make this happen.”

Looking at the excitement on the sets, an insider quipped that given the pace and dedication of the entire unit he wouldn’t be surprised if Bellbottom lands up with a sequel as well.

Bellbottom is the first Bollywood film to fly a massive cast and crew in a chartered plane overseas, since the outbreak of the pandemic.
