PROBE PANEL FINDS PROOF IN ORPHANAGE CASE

A high-powered committee set up to inquire into the year-long sexual assaults on a girl, an inmate of Maruthi orphanage in Ameenpur of Medchal-Malkajgiri district, has found that there is strong evidence against the accused. The committee, set up by the commission­er, women and child welfare department, submitted its preliminar­y report to the official stating that its inquiries have found that the complaints by the girl that she was sexually assaulted by several men, and the role of the orphanage management, were correct. According to the committee member B. Aparna, a final report will be submitted once the Forensic Science Laboratory reports related to the case are received.

Three people – owner of Maruthi Orphanage Ch Vijaya, her brother Surapaneni Jayadeep, and Naredla Venugopal Reddy, a donor to the orphanage — were arrested in August after the case relating to the sexual assault on the 14year-old girl.The girl had complained to the police that beginning in 2019, she was sexually abused in the orphanage. Officials of the women and child welfare department later shifted 49 other girls who were also at the orphanage to various state homes for their safety.
