Probe reveals Bonthu-benami link?
The Anti Corruption Bureau on Wednesday, in a series of raids on properties owned by the Malkajgiri assistant commissioner of police Narasimha Reddy, discovered assets far above his known sources of income.
Simultaneous raids on his house in Mahendra Hills, several other towns in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including some properties owned by his relatives, have revealed that the senior police officer has accumulated assets worth `75 crore or more.
Among those who were raided as part of the ACB raids to probe Narasimha Reddy’s assets, was the Gangadhara mandal MPP from Karimangar district Sri Ramula Madhukar, who before his election to the post, was involved in land deals in Hyderabad.
Sources revealed that Madhukar’s wife Bonala Swetha was appointed as the Chief Information Officer in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation soon after Bonthu Rammohan took charge as Hyderabad city Mayor.
The sources said that the ACB believes that
Madhukar has been a benami for Bonthu Rammohan and the ties between them, if any, along with any possible role that Narasimha Reddy may have played in this relationship, will also be probed. The sources further said that the ACB officials seized Madhukar’s laptop computer and his mobile phone and there
was some pressure to return the gadgets to Madhukar but that the ACB has refused to do so.
The raids conducted on 20 different locations revealed that Narasimha Reddy had accumulated some flats, independent houses.
The ACP’s assets were spread in the city in Nacharam, Habsiguda and Gudimalkapur, and he had acquired 33 acres of land in Ghatkesar, assigned land parcels that spread over five plots, and documents related to 55 more acres in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
Preliminary investigations by the ACB, according to the officials, have revealed that the Narasimha Reddy was allegedly involved in many ‘ land settlements’ right from the time he was the inspector of police in Uppal.
He had also worked at the Narsingi police station.
In addition to the raids on properties he owned in the city, the ACB teams also raided properties owned by his
relatives in Karimnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda.
The raids were led by teams led by six deputy superintendents of police from the ACB.
The Anti Corruption Bureau officials said that bank lockers rented by Narasimha Reddy or his members of his family, will be opened on Thursday for verifying their contents.
