AFTER REPORTS of his voluntary retirement surfaced, a music video went viral on the social media terming Gupteshwar Pandey as “Robin Hood of Bihar” and “Janata ka hero”.

Bihar Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey’s early retirement has triggered speculations that he would join politics and contest Assembly polls from Buxar.

This is the second time he is trying his luck in electoral politics, in 2009 he had opted for voluntary retirement to contest Lok Sabha polls from Buxar but he returned to the Police force after he failed to get

BJP.

Sources, however, said that this time Mr. Pandey decided to quit six months earlier than his actual retirement date after he got assurances from the NDA. He was to retire from services on February 28, 2021.

The Bihar government had appointed him as DGP of the state police on January 31, 2019.

Few hours after reports of his voluntary retirement surfaced, a music a ticket from the video went viral on the social media terming Gupteshwar Pandey as “Robin Hood of Bihar” and “Janata ka hero”.

In the video singer Deepak Thakur also praised Mr. Pandey’s role in Sushant Singh Rajput case and how he faced criticism from various political parties for leading a battle for the deceased actor. Gupteshwar Pandey had hit headlines by taking a strong stand on the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

He had also stoked a controversy by saying that “Rhea Chakraborty doesn’t have aukat to make any comments on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar”.

On Wednesday while talking to reporters he said that “people from various districts where I served earlier have been asking me to contest polls but I have not taken any decisions yet. But as far as my interest in serving people is concerned I can do that even without joining politics”.

During his interaction with the media in Patna, he praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his effort for state’s development and said that “he never compromises on the issue of crime and corruption”. While JD(U) leaders have been maintaining silence on Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey’s early retirement, BJP spokesperson Nikhil Anand in a statement said that “questions should not be raised as he has decided to quit voluntarily. In democracy he has the right to choose his political ideology or party”.

Late on Tuesday evening, the state home department issued the notification granting voluntary retirement for Pandey.
