ALL EYES ON ELECTION TO ADILABAD SEAT

- PILLALAMARRI SRINIVAS I DC

It is the contention in local political circles that the outcome of Adilabad Rural ZPTC election will have a direct bearing on the district politics. This explains why TRS and BJP are vying with each other to win the seat as the result will have considerable influence on the Adilabad Assembly elections.

The belief is that Adivasis, who account for 16,000 in Adilabad Rural mandal, will be the key to the Adilabad Assembly seat. Given its importance, the sons of TRS and BJP leaders are likely to contest the Adilabad ZPTC seat.

There is a likelihood of Payal Shankar’s son being fielded so as to strengthen their political position in Adilabad Assembly constituency. After the sudden demise of TRS Adilabad Rural ZPTC and vice-chairman Ara Rajanna, the BJP has five, Congress three while there are eight from TRS in Adilabad Zilla Parishath of 17 ZPTC seats.

The seat-sharing equations and positions may change in the future in the Adilabad Zilla Parishad with the results of elections for Adilabad Rural ZPTC.
