Gathbandhan manifesto vows jobs, loans waivers

- NAYEAR AZAD I DC

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led grand alliance on Saturday released its manifesto, entitled ‘ Sankalp Patra’ for the upcoming assembly elections, promising job opportunities for youth and loan waivers for farmers.

The manifesto was released in the presence of Congress leaders, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Shakti Singh Gohil and three Left parties - CPI, CPI (M) and CPI (ML) - by RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav.

The grand alliance has been holding the Nitish Kumar-led national democratic alliance (NDA) government responsible for unemployment, the bad law and order scenario, flood and the Covid-19 crisis in the state.

Using the occasion to hit out at Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, and the NDA government at the centre over the special status for Bihar. Yadav said that “There is a double engine government and Nitish Kumar has governed the state for almost 15 years but Bihar has not been accorded special category status. I don’t think US President, Donald Trump, will come and make an announcement.”

The renewed demand for special status by the RJD has aroused the political temperature in poll-bound Bihar. Political analysts claim that demand for special status has been a key issue for Kumar and his party, Janata Dal ( United) (JD(U)), since he came to power in 2005.

In 2009, despite being in alliance with the BJP, Kumar had created a stir in Bihar politics by announcing his support to any party which helped the state gets special status.

The grand alliance manifesto also promises to create job opportunities for the youth of the state and loan waivers for farmers. Major points included in the grand alliance joint manifesto is ten lakh jobs for youth, scrapping of farm laws enacted by the central government, examination fee waiver for students and same pay for same work.

“Our priority is to create job opportunities for youth so that migration is stemmed. As promised by us, we will sanction 10 lakh jobs for youth during our first cabinet meeting if elected to power after the assembly polls. We will also rescue our farmers from the clutches of the new farm laws enacted by the central government,” Yadav said, addressing media in Patna on Saturday.
