Gov. welcomes decision to use two vaccines

Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarara­jan has welcomed the government decision to allow use of two Covid-19 vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin –in the country. This is “one of the proudest moments for all of us and scientists who worked overtime to come up with effective vaccine candidates,” she said.

The governor, a doctor herself, said vaccines with a ‘Made in India’ tag represente­d a major step from the pharmaceut­ical sector towards the Atma Nirbhar vision and goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr Soundarara­jan slammed critics of the vaccine approval process, saying those who create such controvers­ies “are doing a disservice to the efforts of our proud scientific community.”

nessed the second largest number of Covid-19 cases of the order of 10.03 million till January 3 and “recorded a massive 1.5 lakh deaths” cannot afford to ignore the vaccinatio­n.

Recalling her visit to Bharat Biotech’s vaccine research and production facility, Dr Soundarara­jan said, “Any rumour on the efficacy of the vaccine is likely to impact and intensify vaccine-hesitancy among the people, especially the common man, who may have doubts over any kind of vaccinatio­n.”
