The Cyberabad police on Tuesday busted a fake vehicle insurance racket and arrested 11 persons by seizing 1,125 fake policies and cash. The bust was made following a complaint by the area manager of Reliance General Insurance insurance policies.

According to the police, the prime accused, G. Ramesh,

30, a pollution vehicle owner, had teamed up with T. Sairam, 31, G. Govardhan, 40, G. Ramesh, 40, G. Raju,

36, A. Praveen, 23, G. Sudheer Kumar, 26, G. Krishna, 30, M. Shankar, 25, Jeethender Kushwa,

35, and Ravi Kadigalla to scam the public.

Guruvardhan Perla, the area manager of Reliance General Insurance, lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad police regarding fake vehicle insurance policies. During their investigations, the special operation teams of Shamshabad zone found that the group of people had created fake vehicle insurance policies in the name of Reliance General Insurance, Kotak General Insurance, HDFC ERGO General Insurance, IFFCOTOKIP General Insurance, Chola MS General Insurance, Future General insurance, Shreeram General Insurance, and Royal Sundaram general insurance. They had sold the policies to needy people for huge sums.

Explaining their modus operandi, police said that the accused persons used to operate pollution testing vehicles on highways and near RTO offices. “Whenever a vehicle came for pollution testing, they would inquire with the vehicle owners about insurance policies. If they did not have one, the accused persons would convince them to buy vehicle insurance. They would then issue the insurance bond and cheat them,” said the police.

As an appeal to the public, cops said that one must check the authorisation of the agent/agency before taking insurance policies.

“Insurance policy bonds will be obtained after a minimum period of 12 hours, anyone giving it instantly is handing you a fake one. Insurance policies will be delivered only by post and pollution control vehicles do not give authorisation for issuance of insurance policies. If someone knowingly takes fake insurance policies, they are also liable to be booked under a cheating case. If you suspect any fake insurance sellers please Dial 100 or complaint through Cyberabad WhatsApp number, 9490617444,” added the police.
