Rohan hits ton as HCAleague halts

- DC CORRESPONDENT

G. Rohan Yadav of Central Excise completed his century but the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s A-1 Division three-day league matches were stopped midway through the second day on Wednesday following an order from the Telangana High Court, which was dealing with the raw deal meted to the Union Bank of India team.

Resuming at his overnight score of 71, Rohan went on to score 136 with the help of 26 boundaries and a six as Central Excise replied to EMCC’s 126 with a strong 306 for 3 in 64.1 overs. J. Anshul Lal, the other overnight batsman, made 87 while No.4 P. S. Chaitanya Reddy was batting on 63 when play was stopped.

HCA joint secretary Naresh Sharma said the stalled matches would be replayed as fresh games at the end of the season. “However, the performances of players over the past one-and-a-half days of action will be taken into account. They will count,” he assured.

Naresh was confident that the next round of matches, starting on Tuesday, would not be affected. “I am sure things will be sorted out by then,” he said.

The Telangana High Court had on Tuesday stayed all ongoing matches of the league conducted by the HCA, for not carrying out its orders — the court had directed the HCA to include the cricket team of the Union Bank of India

(formerly Andhra Bank team) to participate in league matches for the season.

Teams were into the second half of the second day when a message from HCA secretary R. Vijayanand addressed to the Joint Secretary, League Committee and other Grounds In-charges brought the games to a halt, at 1.10 pm. “Dear all, in the light of the interim stay order issued by the Honourable Court, you are hereby informed that all the ongoing league matches stand postponed with immediate effect. Kindly be guided accordingly,” the message read.
