DOG ADOPTION DRIVE TO BE HELD TODAY

- HARLEEN MINOCHA | DC

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), in association with dog welfare organisation, 4 Leg Friends, will conduct a dog adoption drive at Dog Park on Necklace Road here on Sunday.

During the walk-in adoption drive slated to be held from 7 am to 11 am, volunteers from 4 Leg Friends will give away 15 Indie dogs and puppies for adoption or foster care.

One of the head volunteers of the organisation, Vijaya Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that there was a likelihood of more than 15 being up for adoption directly. She said that those adopting dogs and puppies will be made to sign a form declaring complete care of the canines and that they would not abandon the pets.

“We want that these dogs rescued or picked up from the streets don’t pose a risk to their parents or to their own health. Therefore at the adoption drive, we have ensured the presence of a veterinarian, who will administer vaccines to those that are adopted or taken into foster care”, pointed out Vijaya.

While the rabies vaccine will be free of charge, a 7-in-1 vaccine will cost ` 300, she added. The male or female dogs will be later neutered or castrated so that there is no chance that their puppies would be left on streets or abandoned.

“Our motto is to give a home to these dogs and puppies where they are loved, fed and cared for. We don’t wish that any canines are left suffering on the streets,” she said.

While this is the first time that 4 Leg Friends is collaborating with the civic body, the 10-member strong group of volunteers has been conducting various drives in the city annually. They added that they plan to continue conducting this drive, in association with GHMC, every Sunday going forward.
