Double joy for tennis Anand
IPS officer and veteran sportsman C. V. Anand won a grand double at the S. V. Ramayya Memorial Open tennis tournament held at the Lal Bahadur Stadium Tennis Complex in Hyderabad.
Anand defeated Vikas Aswani of Nagpur 9-7 in the final to take the 40+ singles crown. He then teamed up with Waheed to defeat the combination of Laggani Srinivas and Shivakumar Raju 9-6 in the
40+ doubles title match to collect both trophies in the category.
On way to singles finals, Anand beat top All India Seniors Tennis Association (AISTA) players like Jaishanker of Pondicherry, Satheesan of Chennai and Surender Imam of Tirupati among others.
In the 30+ singles final, Anurag defeated Vijay Anand 2-6, 6-1, 10-6. The two also paired up in the
30+ doubles but went down to Dilip and Raja 1-6, 6-4, 510 in the summit clash.
Organised by the Hyderabad Open Tennis Association (HOTA) and being the first senior national tournament after the lockdown, a record number of 374 players from all parts of the country participated in the event. The competition was very tough with draws going up to 128 in 40+ and 50+ categories.

■ 60+ singles: Srinivasulu Reddy bt Sanyasi Raju (AP)
6-2, 6-3.
■ 60+ doubles: Srinivasulu Reddy/ Dhanunjayulu bt Mehir Prakash/ V Sankar 6-2,
6-1.
■ 70+ doubles: Tahir Ali/ Daval Patel bt KSR Murthi/ Col Parvatheesam 9-1.
