Shahid’s Jersey on Diwali
COVID vaccine proves to be a shot in the arm for the filmmakers
Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey has been announced as the big release of the year. The GautamTinnauri directorial film also starring Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur will now arrive in theatres this Diwali on 05 November.
According to a source, “Jersey is complete, but the makers who were not sure about how many pending films are slated to come in the immediate future, preferred to keep a safe distance and pick a good release date for the movie.”
Some of the films, though, do not have a fixed date despite announcements. The release of Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom by director Ranjit Tewari too had been announced as 2 April long ago, but now there is Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, which does not have a release date yet and sources say that its April date may change as well. Salman
Khan too had recently hinted that his film Radhe may arrive on Eid if everything gets better. And with the COVID vaccine, filmmakers are also seemingly getting a shot in the arm and will be making announcements soon. Other biggies in the fray, such as ’83, are soon expected to have an announcement soon, too, say trade sources.
“It is the vaccination that has prompted makers to hurry and announce release dates. Now, Jersey has blocked Diwali and it will be up to the other makers to lock their dates at the earliest. There is an air of positivity with filmmakers and the movie business including the exhibition sector,” says Atul Mohan, Editor Complete Cinema.
Among smaller films, we have the Rishi-Kapoor starrer Sharmaji Namkeen directed by Hitesh Bhatia, which has been allotted a release date on the late actor’s birthday, on 4 September.
