Deepika to star in The Sound of Music remake?
Hindi and Tamil version of Hollywood classic planned
The Sound of Music, that evergreen favourite of movie lovers, may find an Indian avatar, under the aegis of BVP Rao, possibly with Deepika Padukone in the lead role. Rao, a former bureaucrat with the Archery Association of India and the Sports Association of India, wants to remake the 1965 Hollywood classic in Hindi and Tamil, and is in the process of acquiring the rights. Rao is a friend of Deepika’s father and ace shuttler
Prakash Padukone, and has approached the actress through his connection with the badminton legend.
While Gulzar’s Parichay starring Pran, Jeetendra and Jaya Bhaduri was also partly inspired by the film,
“Rao will make the film with a contemporary setup, though there are discussions to give it a period feel, say sources. “There will be songs galore in the film and the maker wants to get the best people in the film industry for the project,” the sources add. Deepika is yet to give her nod for the project.
The actress has already signed up for another Hollywood remake — The Intern — in which she is a producer. But nothing has moved on the film after the announcement, due to her co-actor Rishi Kapoor’s death. Meanwhile, Deepika has her plate full with the release of 83, the shoots of Karan Johar’s film under Shakun Batra’s direction, a movie with Prabhas and
another with Hrithik Roshan.
