Melania trump bids adieu

Goodbyes to the Trump Era begin with the wife of the US president bidding farewell

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The outgoing First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), Melania Trump, has done what her husband, the outgoing President of the United States (POTUS), might refuse to do gracefully — say goodbye to the White House.

In an about-seven-minute-long video, which she posted to her Twitter page, Melania said it was the greatest honour of her life to serve as the First Lady, even describing her four years as “unforgettable”.

In her speech, while she made no reference to the 06January insurrection at the Capitol, she told her 1.6 crore followers on the microblogging site to “be passionate in everything you do” but to “always remember that violence is never the answer and will never be justified.” It may even have been the closest the President has come to acknowledging the violence that he incited at the Capitol, a crime for Trump made history by being the first US President to get impeached for the second time during his presidency.

Though she didn’t mention anything about welcoming Jill Biden as the new FLOTUS, Melania spoke about her Be Best initiative and said she was inspired by millions of Americans across the country during her time at the White House and described service members as “heroes”.

Unlike her husband who, as POTUS, had termed martyrs ‘losers’, Melania paid homage to soldiers, saying, “I see the faces of brave young soldiers who have told me with pride in their eyes how much they love serving this country. To every service member and to our incredible military families:

You are heroes, and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers.”
