TMC vows to take revenge

- RAJIB CHOWDHURI | DC

A day after “Jai Shree Ram” chants prompted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to refuse to address the Centre’s Parakram Diwas celebration as a mark of protest in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at Victoria Memorial, her nephew and Diamond Harbour Trinamul Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee vowed to take “revenge” against the BJP “in every inch” as the ruling party demonstrated across the districts, crying of an “insult” to its supremo at the official event, to swing the public mood in the poll-bound state.

Advising the BJP workers to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’ at their homes and on religious occasions Banerjee on Sunday told a party rally at Kultali in South 24 Parganas, “They polluted the environment when our elected CM was about to address the official event on the solemn occasion. When they did not allow her to speak, she protested and did not deliver her address to make the PM feel that no insult to iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose is tolerated here. They did not learn a lesson even after demolishing the bust of another legend: Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar in 2019.”

In a threatening mood he added, “It was Mamata Banerjee’s magnanimity that she gave the slogan: Bodla Noy, Bodol Chai (We want change, not revenge). That is why they are now making tall talks. After coming to power again, revenge will be meted out to them in every inch. Be ready for that. You will be paid back in full. I will see then how much power you have.”

The TMC MP also declared to quit politics if he can not wipe out the saffron party in the coming Assembly election. Apart from him, TMC ministers like Firhad Hakim and Bratya Basu also tore into the BJP for raising religious slogans in political overtones at a government event to “insult” the CM.
