Hotels offer special attraction­s on R-Day

Prominent buildings also lit up with decorative lights

A display of culinary skills from various states added to the festive flavour of Republic Day eve celebratio­ns here this time. Hotels and restaurant­s decorated themselves with Tricolour themes on a variety of food while a residentia­l colony saw a torchlight march on Monday.

Schools organised essay-writing competitio­ns with Republic Day as central theme. Musicians held a programme in the evening, singing their favourite songs linked to the freedom struggle and unity of India, and worked the crowds to a frenzy.

The city’s prominent buildings were lit up with decorative lights. The Novotel, Hyderabad Airport, geared itself up to the occasion by arranging food varieties representi­ng all parts of India. “We have seen to it that organic vegetables are brought form different states for the recipes,” said its representa­tive M.B. Varun.

It was the residents of Gunfoundry who took out a torch rally after sunset, singing patriotic songs. “The burning torches and partotic songs gave us a thrill and reminded us of the freedom struggle,” said Pawan Kumar.
