16 get Padma award posthumously this year
Archaeologist Lal known for his ‘pillar base theory’ at Babri gets Padma Vibhushan
The government on Monday announced the Padma Awards on the eve of the Republic Day. This year, the President has approved 119 Padma Awards. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards. As many as 29 of these awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners, NRI, PIO and OCI while were 16 are Posthumous awardees and one transgender awardee.
The prominent awardees this year include former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and singer S.P.
PADMA VIBHUSHAN
Balasubramaniam among the Padma Vibhushan recipients.
Noted archaeologist B.B. Lal has also been given the Padma Vibhushan. He had floated the “pillar base theory” at the disputed Babri Masjid site claiming that these pillars were identified
as those of temples.
Padma Bhushan was given posthumously to former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, former Gujarat CM Keshubhai Patel. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, religious
leader Kalbe Sadiq and former Principal Secretary to PM. Nripendra Mishra have also been awarded the Padma Bhushan.
Former Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha has been awarded Padma Shri posthumously.
1971 Bangladesh war veteran
Lt Col Quazi Sajjad Ali Zahid and Bangladeshi artist Sanjida Khatun were awarded Padma Shri.
Other Pasma Shri awardees include P. Anitha for sports, Rajni Bector for Trade and Industry, Peter Brook from United Kingdom for Art, Nicholas

Kazanas from Greece for Literature and Education.
The list of Padma Shri awardees has a maximum of 102 people both from India and abroad which also includes some posthumously in different fields like medicine, arts, culture.
