Tricolour and a resolve to do better
City marks R-Day with flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes amid patriotic fervour
The CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) celebrated the 72nd Republic Day with its director, Dr Rakesh Mishra, recalling how the premier research laboratory discovered and created innovative ways of handling research activities while formulating cheap and robust methods of testing Covid-19 samples.
Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda police commissioner, who was the chief guest, after unfurling the Flag, recalled how the CCMB’s contributions have enhanced quality of life. He spoke of the lab’s role in wildlife forensics and DNA fingerprinting. He recollected an earlier case of a tigress killed in the Hyderabad zoo whose pelt was traced in Maharashtra — a case that was solved by CCMB and its wildlife forensic services.
The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry celebrated the Republic Day with Ramakanth Inani, its president, hoisting the Flag. Federation senior vice-president K. Bhasker Reddy, vice-president Anil Agarwal, Karunendra S. Jasti, Ravindra Modi, V. S. Raju, Ramakrishna Prasad, Mohan Rayudu, Rupesh Agarwal, Khyati Naravane, T. Sujatha, M Veena, and other staff members were present.
At the State Bank of India, Chief General Manager O.P. Mishra, Hyderabad Circle, unfurled the Tricolour at the head office. All staff and members of their families participated in the event which was celebrated with rendering of patriotic songs by the staff. As part of the events, the bank distributed food packets to the destitute and underprivileged at the old age homes at Rampally, Nacharam and slums located at Jiyaguda, Puranapul.
Elsewhere, the National Mineral Development Corporation staff celebrated the day with patriotic fervour. The programme commenced with flag hoisting by Sumit Deb, chairman and managing director. Others present included P.K. Satpathy, director, production, Amitava Mukherjee, director (finance), Alok Kumar Mehta, director (commercial) and V.V.S. Sreenivas, chief vigilance officer.
