TRS-BJP posing threat: Uttam

TPCC says BJP and TRS governments trying to kill democracy

- MADDY DEEKSHITH I DC

State Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday alleged that the BJP at the Centre and the TRS in the state posed serious threats to the survival of democracy.

Speaking after hoisting the National Flag at Gandhi Bhavan on the 72nd Republic Day, Reddy welcomed the awarding of Mahaveer Chakra to Col. Santosh Babu, martyred in a clash with the Chinese army last year on the India-China border. He said Col. Santosh Babu and he himself were aluminis of the National Defence Academy (NDA).

The TPCC president said that while the BJP government was hurting the spirit of the Constitution, the TRS government was trying to kill democracy. Both the parties were not showing any respect for the Constitution. It was unfortunate that efforts were being made by some elements to divide the country on religious lines.

The Nalgonda MP criticised the attitude of the BJP government in not repealing the farm laws although the farmers were protesting against these for the last two months. He said Prime Minister Narender Modi was ignoring the demands of farmers. “The Modi government

has mortgaged the interests of farmers and is bent on helping a few corporates like the Ambanis and Adanis,” he alleged.

He also criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for “taking a U-turn” on the farm laws. TRS participated in the Bharat Bandh against the farm

laws, but the CM took a U-turn after visiting Delhi.

Reddy said the Congress party would continue its agitation until the TRS government withdrew its decision on shutting down the procurement centres. Every grain produced by farmers must be procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP), he said.

The Congress leader said the Modi government was inciting communal feelings while Chandrashekar Rao behaved like a dictator. The TRS rule is noted for its corruption and the ruling party leaders were using the ill-gotten money to win elections. He said the BJP, the TRS and the MIM have entered into a secret pact to finish off the Congress in Telangana state.

Reddy appealed to intellectuals, academics and others to take note as to how elections were being conducted in Telangana state. Strengthening of the Congress was essential for restoration of democracy. He praised Congress workers for the spirit with which they “served” the people despite facing “several obstacles and harassment” from the ruling party.

He claimed that the Congress was strong at the ground level and it would return to power in the next elections.
