6 of family killed as lorry hits auto

In a gruesome incident, six members of a family, who were on their way to purchase clothes for their daughter’s wedding, were crushed to death on NH 365 after the autoricksh­aw they were travelling in and a lorry collided head-on near Marrimitta village of

Gudur mandal in Mahbubabad district on Friday.

Among the deceased was the bride-to-be Jatoth Prameela (23) who was engaged recently and the marriage was on February 10.

All the deceased were residents of Errakunta thanda.

In a gruesome incident, six members of a family, who were on their way to purchase clothes for their daughter’s wedding, were crushed to death on NH 365 after the autoricksh­aw they were travelling in and a lorry collided head-on near Marrimitta village of Gudur mandal in Mahbubabad district on Friday.

Among the deceased was the bride-to-be Jatoth Prameela (23) who was engaged recently and the marriage was on February 10. All the deceased were residents of Errakunta thanda.

The deceased were identified as family members of one Jatoth Kasna. Prameela’s mother Jatoth Kalyani (48), brother Jatoth Pradeep (25), uncle Jatoth Prasad (42), aunt Jatoth Laxmi (35) and the autoricksh­aw driver, Jatoth Ramu (33), also a relative of the family set off together in the auto but met with the accident on the outskirts of Boddugunda. According to Gudur inspector Raj Reddy, an over-speeding lorry coming in the opposite direction from Narsampet rammed into the autoricksh­aw and dragged it for several metres. The inmates were crushed as the autoricksh­aw got struck under the lorry. An earthmover was used to pull the vehicle out.

He said that the lorry driver who fled from the spot later surrendere­d before the police. A case was registered under Section 304(A) IPC (Causing death by rash or negligent act) and the bodies were shifted to Mahbubabad Area Hospital.

Meanwhile, Governor Tamilisai Soundarara­jan and Chief Minister K. Chandrashe­kar Rao expressed shock over the accident and offered his condolence­s to the family members.
