Harish tells Nabard to liberally assist farmers
Finance minister T. Harish Rao said that credit plan should be prepared according to the requirements of farmers. He was speaking at the Nabard state credit plan conference here on Friday.
Harish Rao said banks giving loans to farmers is a thing of the past. He pointed out that the agriculture sector faced several problems in the last ten years, including fake seeds, shortage of fertilizers, cultivable water, power shortages, marketing facilities, poor road connectivity and warehouses for crop storage. But now conditions have improved ever since K.
Chandrashekar Rao took over as Chief Minister.
Listing out the benefits handed by the government, he said bankers should meet farmers in the field and not in plush corporate government offices. Nabard’s job is to help the lives of farmers and ensure that they will not suffer any financial problems.
He said that rainwater harvesting machines and cotton harvesters should reach the farmers. The government is depositing money in the farmer's bank accounts before the start of the season.
Harish Rao also pointed out that an increase in crop production does not benefit the farmer. The cost of crop production should be reduced. National income increases with palm oil.
State planning commission board vicechairman B Vinod Kumar, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Principal secretary to Finance Rama Krishna Rao, and NABARD CGM Rama Krishna Rao attended.
